Finished this up just in time to take it to the demo on Saturday as an example of arts and sciences stuff we do in the SCA. 

Probably not my best work- this was my first ever one with mantling, and I’m not thrilled with how it came out. I don’t draw free hand well, and that’s what I had to do for the mantling part so yeah.

But at least the calligraphy is good.

One of my A&S projects… Enamelled Beakers.

One of the things I saw and was blown away by when I went to London in Nov was a painted glass cup at the British Museum. What I didn’t know at the time was that its the only intact one of it’s kind, the rest are in shards, as I saw at the London Museum.

But my brain went ‘Wait… It’s Illumination on Glass! I could do that!’. And so decided to have some fun with my personal heraldry since I couldn’t find any glasses that look like the Aldrevandini Beaker. Found these at Goodwill, it was as close to handmade looking glass as I could find.

The images of Aldrevandini Beakers I can find all have bands at the top with the maker’s name saying ‘so-and-so made me’, and a band at the bottom, usually at least one sheild pattern, the rest is animals and vinework. I used elements of my Heraldry, so debating entering under Heraldry instead of Home Goods.

I have two names in the SCA, each with its own registered heraldry. Gold, Purple and Green is the one that reads ‘The Lady Yasha the Poisoner Made Me’, with poison ivy vines and the Decepticon Logo, which I did manage to pass as my personal badge as a Fox Face with 3 Leaves. Hee hee. (more on that in a later post)

‘The Lady Icka the Goth Made Me’ is our normal heraldry and what I use for my icon, a red winged squid on a feildless background. I did tentacles instead of vine work. (‘goth’ actually means ‘good’ in the historical context, so I kinda have a split personality in the SCA)

This was done freehand with glass paint markers, (‘enamel’ essentially means ‘hard paint’, glass paint is powdered glass in a medium and baked) and eventually I’d like to do it with opaque paints and actually attempt a reproduction, but first I need to find a vessel that looks like the ones they used in 13th century Venice. >P

-Historically speaking, the painted glass cups were basically a way of saying ‘I’m Rich as Fook, Neener Neener’, but honestly I think they’re just cool looking. ^___^

Abandoned Amusement Park in New Orleans

This is our old Six Flags I think? It was ruined after hurricane Katrina and they never bothered to restore it so they’re either gonna sell it for scrap metal or use it for movie sets.

I’m obsessed with this idea of an outdoor clawfoot tub right now.  Think of the convenience?!  Dirty from a day of gardening?  Instead of tracking in all that dirt, strip down and jump into the tub right in the middle of your garden!  Listen to the evening birdsong whilst sipping tea/wine/whiskey and let your muscles soak.  When you’re done, drain off the water into the garden.  Ugh.  It’s so perfect and I am intent on making this a reality soon!
